mountain railways such as the Rigi, Pilatus, Rothorn, Gornergrat, and Jungfrau,
help to make Switzerland a railway paradise. The Jungfrau can be reached
as a round trip from Interlaken, ideally taking in Grindelwald on the return

The terminal station of one of the World's highest
and most interesting railways, at some 11,000 ft/4,000m, is famously in
tunnel:- |
The ultimate intention of the builders, to continue
another 2,000ft/700m, and even provide a lift from there to the summit,
has not so far been realised, so many folk come to climb further!. The
rest of us are likely to feel oxygen lack at this altitude, and instead
take the unusual opportunity provided by the year-round snow, of an unusual
transportation system - a ride on a sledge pulled by a dog team. Reputedly
they love to work.....
