Evening Star in full cry
This 1964 photograph of the last of the line, "Evening Star", built at Swindon 3 years earlier, contrasts with it in quieter mood below. In the photo above, it was on an up charter special approaching Buckhorn Weston tunnel, and below, left "idling" at Bristol Temple Meads. In the real "Glory Days", this end of Temple Meads station was a busy place to be. Right, arriving trains dip under the Bath Road bridge, rise back up, and swing majestically into the station.
